4 Critical Points to Think About Before the Mawlid

The Mawlid is a Muslim practice many around the world celebrate. The Mawlid is Arabic for "Birthday of the Prophet Muhammad(saw)".

So should we celebrate the Birthday of the Prophet(saw)?

Here are 4 points you should consider.

  1. Celebrating the birthday of the Prophet(saw) is an imitation of the Christians, because they celebrate the birth of the Messiah, i.e. Christmas. This idea of "the birthday" came from the Romans who accepted Christianity and continued the practices from their previous religion of worshipping idols.
“Do not praise me as the Christians praised the son of Maryam(Jesus turned into Son of God). For I am just His slave, so call me the slave of Allaah and His Messenger” (Bukhaari)
  2. The Companions of the Prophet and the 2 generations after him never celebrated the Mawlid. It started with the Nusayris in Egypt and became a tradition 400 years after the death of  the Prophet(saw) by an individual called Muzaffar Abu Saeed Kawkaboori.

  3. There is no agreement on the proper date of the Prophet(peace be upon him)'s day of birth, but it accepted by every scholar of the Sunnah that 12th Rabiul Awwal is the date the Prophet(saw) died, Question: are you celebrating his death?

  4. The Prophet(saw) never taught this, and you cannot find evidence of this anywhere. This is what you call an innovation in religion(bid'ah). The closest we can come to a birthday, is that he(saw) used to fast on Mondays because he was born on a monday. Do you notice any date?

Note:
(saw) - SalAllahu alayhi wasallam, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him
All statements are supported by evidence, and they were simplified so everybody can understand. More details can be found here.

Position of women in Islam

Aristotle, the father of democracy said this about women:

"Wherever possible and so far as possible the male is separate from the female, since it is something better and more divine. Some offspring take after their parents.Males take after their father more then their mother....

..Others do not take after a human being at all in their appearance, but have gone so far that they resemble a monstrosity. The first beginning of this deviation is when a female is formed instead of a male, females are weaker and colder in their nature; and we should look upon the female state as being as it were a deformity...."

What the QUR'AN says about women:

  •     "He it is Who has created you from a single soul and made there from its mate, so that the male might incline towards the female and find comfort in Her." (Qur'an, 7:189)
  •     What Prophet Muhammad(saw) said about women on the other hand: “Women are the twin halves of men. None but a noble man treats women in an honorable manner, and none but an ignorant treats women disgracefully.”
  •     He(saw) also said, "O people, your wives have a certain right over you and you have certain rights over them. Treat them well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers."
  •     “A man asked: O Prophet of Allah, who deserves to be treated well by me most of all? The Prophet said: Your mother. He asked: Who then? The Prophet said: Your mother. He asked: Who then? The Prophet said: Your mother. He asked: Who then? The Prophet said: Then your father.”[Bukhari]

So which system from its origins is more rightly positioned in its view of women to secure their rights and govern their affairs?

Note: (saw) means salAllahu alayhi wasallam, which is translated to Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him
