4 Critical Points to Think About Before the Mawlid

The Mawlid is a Muslim practice many around the world celebrate. The Mawlid is Arabic for "Birthday of the Prophet Muhammad(saw)".

So should we celebrate the Birthday of the Prophet(saw)?

Here are 4 points you should consider.

  1. Celebrating the birthday of the Prophet(saw) is an imitation of the Christians, because they celebrate the birth of the Messiah, i.e. Christmas. This idea of "the birthday" came from the Romans who accepted Christianity and continued the practices from their previous religion of worshipping idols.
“Do not praise me as the Christians praised the son of Maryam(Jesus turned into Son of God). For I am just His slave, so call me the slave of Allaah and His Messenger” (Bukhaari)
  2. The Companions of the Prophet and the 2 generations after him never celebrated the Mawlid. It started with the Nusayris in Egypt and became a tradition 400 years after the death of  the Prophet(saw) by an individual called Muzaffar Abu Saeed Kawkaboori.

  3. There is no agreement on the proper date of the Prophet(peace be upon him)'s day of birth, but it accepted by every scholar of the Sunnah that 12th Rabiul Awwal is the date the Prophet(saw) died, Question: are you celebrating his death?

  4. The Prophet(saw) never taught this, and you cannot find evidence of this anywhere. This is what you call an innovation in religion(bid'ah). The closest we can come to a birthday, is that he(saw) used to fast on Mondays because he was born on a monday. Do you notice any date?

Note:
(saw) - SalAllahu alayhi wasallam, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him
All statements are supported by evidence, and they were simplified so everybody can understand. More details can be found here.

Position of women in Islam

Aristotle, the father of democracy said this about women:

"Wherever possible and so far as possible the male is separate from the female, since it is something better and more divine. Some offspring take after their parents.Males take after their father more then their mother....

..Others do not take after a human being at all in their appearance, but have gone so far that they resemble a monstrosity. The first beginning of this deviation is when a female is formed instead of a male, females are weaker and colder in their nature; and we should look upon the female state as being as it were a deformity...."

What the QUR'AN says about women:

  •     "He it is Who has created you from a single soul and made there from its mate, so that the male might incline towards the female and find comfort in Her." (Qur'an, 7:189)
  •     What Prophet Muhammad(saw) said about women on the other hand: “Women are the twin halves of men. None but a noble man treats women in an honorable manner, and none but an ignorant treats women disgracefully.”
  •     He(saw) also said, "O people, your wives have a certain right over you and you have certain rights over them. Treat them well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers."
  •     “A man asked: O Prophet of Allah, who deserves to be treated well by me most of all? The Prophet said: Your mother. He asked: Who then? The Prophet said: Your mother. He asked: Who then? The Prophet said: Your mother. He asked: Who then? The Prophet said: Then your father.”[Bukhari]

So which system from its origins is more rightly positioned in its view of women to secure their rights and govern their affairs?

Note: (saw) means salAllahu alayhi wasallam, which is translated to Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him

4 Benefits of Ayat Al-Kursi You Probably Didn't Know

Recently a Raqi, someone who performs Ruqya, recalled how he was trying to remove a Jinn from inside a person. When he was nearly done, the Jinn said he would take revenge on him and harm his wife and children. The Raqi was calm and said that as long as Allah Protects him, the Jinn wouldn't be able to harm him.

The night went and passed, and the Raqi returned to the same person to perform Ruqya on him to complete his work. He asked the Jinn if he was able to harm  him. The Jinn said no, because he was surrounded by angels during the night.

The Raqi then replied that he had recited Ayat Al-Kursi before going to sleep.

Ruqya is an Islamic practice by which bad Jinn or devils are removed from a person. In English, it would be called exorcism, but it is very different from Christian exorcism, because only the Qur'an's verses are enough to remove them.

So his story got us thinking how we could remind and encourage our brothers and sisters to take refuge with Allah by reciting Ayat Al-Kursi. So here goes.

1. Nothing prevents you from entering Jannah except death

Condition: After every prayer

Abu Umamah radiyaAllahu anhu reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,

Whoever recites the verse of the Throne after every prescribed prayer, there will be nothing standing between him and his entering Paradise except death.

2. It is the Greatest Verse of the Quran

The Prophet(salAllahu alayhi wa Sallam) struck Abu Mundhir's chest and said "Rejoice!"

Ubayy ibn Ka’b reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “O Abu Mundhir, do you know the greatest verse in the book of Allah?” I said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.”

The Prophet said, “O Abu Mundhir, do you know the greatest verse in the book of Allah?” I recited the verse, “Allah, there is no God but Him, the Living, the Sustainer.” (2:255)

The Prophet struck me on the chest and he said, “By Allah, Abu Mundhir, rejoice in this knowledge!”

3. Understand that Allah NEVER gets tired of protecting you

Ibn Abbas radiyaAllahu anhu narrates(not a hadith):

Once Bani Israel questioned Musa (a.s) whether his Lord ever sleeps? Musa (a.s) replied: FEAR HIM! What kind of question is that? Allah called Musa (a.s) and said: Hold 2 bottles in your hands and keep on standing whole night. He followed Allah’s order and did exactly that, but when half of the night went passed he started to slumber and bowed down on his knees, but then he quickly awoke, however in the last part of night he had a deep slumber and both bottles fell from his hands and “GOT BROKEN” Then Allah azza Wajjal said: O Musa! If I sleep then the heavens and the worlds would break into pieces just like these bottles. So Allah revealed this ayah to his Prophet (Muhammad - Peace be upon him)

4. Allah sends you a guard when sleeping and the devil can not approach you

Condition: you recite it before sleeping every night.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered me to guard the alms of Ramadan. Then someone came and was stealing from the food. I caught him and said, “I will take you to the Messenger of Allah!”

He said to me, “Please do not take me to the Messenger of Allah! I will tell you a few words through which Allah will benefit you! When you go to your bed, then recite the verse of the Throne (2:255) for there will be a guard from Allah to protect you throughout the night and Satan will not come near to you until dawn.”

When the Prophet heard this, he said, “He told you the truth although he is a liar, for he was Satan.

Invitation to an internet cup of tea [INTRO]

Salamu alaikum(Peace be upon you),

This is a test post for our new official Blog from Islamic Dawah Centre South Australia. Our aim is to educate, and more importantly, take a critical look at the affairs that affect Muslims of South Australia, and Australia in general and in the world.

If you are new to what is a blog, a blog is like an online diary. It is casual yet informative, short but enjoyable, and most importantly very easy to interact.

This idea began as a result of the media firestorm the Centre was exposed to a few months back. Further tensions in the muslim community in Melbourne, Sydney, etc. states further fueled our drive to start this, and so here we are.

This is our new official website.

Insha'Allah we hope to bring you new material regularly to read, enlighten and educate yourself. There are many issues that plague our community and beautiful aspects which many people outside the Muslim community do not know, and education is the first step to solve these problems.

Subscribe to us and Bookmark our Blog. It is very easy. Press "Ctrl and D" buttons together, and press "Save" or "Done".
